Gold Coast Airport Bird and Wildlife Management Program

Gold Coast Airport in collaboration with Avisure was the first airport in Australia to formulate a Bird and Wildlife Management Plan which complies with the national framework for ‘Bird and Animal Management’ at airports. Avisure’s field biologists currently assist Gold Coast Airport Operations Officers in their role of active bird management, equipped with state of the art bird dispersal equipment. Avisure conducted:

• Risk assessments
• Annual reviews
• Coordinated multi-stakeholder committees
• Operations Officer training
• Forensic assessment of bird carcasses

Fiji Airports Bird Management Program

Fiji Airport commissioned Avisure to carry out a review of bird management programs currently in place at Fiji’s two major airports. The project included risk assessments, training airport personnel and the development of comprehensive management plans for each port.

Christchurch International Airport Risk Assessment

Christchurch City Council contracted Avisure to assess the change in risk of bird strike if a proposed international rowing course was built adjacent to the International Airport. Avisure’s risk assessment resulted in more suitable course locations being considered.

Gold Coast Airport Works Safety Officers

Our Works Safety Officers have been working on the Gold Coast Airport runway and apron extension. Using aviation and safety expertise, our team are key to the smooth and safe operations of construction within the airport context. Some of the activities that we are involved in are:

• Issue and control of visitor passes
• Gate control
• Security and safety monitoring
• Vehicle escorts
• OLS monitoring and control
• Operational monitoring and control of plant
• Airport authority liaison

Cairns International Airport Bird and Wildlife Management Plan

Avisure was originally contracted by Cairns Airport Pty Ltd to develop a comprehensive bird and wildlife management strategy. Since then we  have completed an extensive flying-fox monitoring study, a long term grass management trial, staff training, risk assessments and auditing, and have assisted in the compilation of numerous strike investigation reports.
